 The C&O Canal is a former railroad turned rail-trail.  It starts in Georgetown and heads west to Cumberland, Maryland, roughly 184 miles away.    From there the C&O connects to the Great Allegheny Passage, another rail-trail and go

The C&O Canal is a former railroad turned rail-trail.  It starts in Georgetown and heads west to Cumberland, Maryland, roughly 184 miles away.  

From there the C&O connects to the Great Allegheny Passage, another rail-trail and goes yet another 150 miles to western Pennsylvania.

 This photo was taken on the Fairfax County Trail, a single and double track trails from Great Falls to Occoquan,  This trail is a real gem considering it is located within minutes of Washington DC.
